No, they can be different. You can use the global device defaults or a connection profile or explicitly enter credentials for an NCM node

Re: Parent Child dependencies where more than a single parent node exists
As mharvey said, put the parents into a group, and then under 'Advanced' modify the 'Status rollup mode' to show the group status as the status of the best performing member.
